Considerations for Calculating the ROI of a Hardware Enclosure

Hardware enclosures protect critical pieces of equipment from dust, debris and even liquids that can harm the machines. When calculating the ROI of a hardware enclosure, one obvious factor to figure in is the replacement cost of the hardware. But, that’s not the only amount that matters. For one, organizations should also consider a variety of harder-to-quantify enclosure benefits, as well as the lost costs resulting from equipment downtime.

Plus, here are two more key reasons organizations should invest in a quality enclosure to protect their equipment.

Enhance Efficiencies

Many organizations house their label printers, scanners and more in areas that don’t pose any harm to them, but are out of the way of where they’re needed. So, while the action is happening in the dusty warehouse, the cooler or other location hazardous to electronics, the electronics are kept separate to keep them safe.

But, this creates inefficiencies in the organization’s processes.

With the needed hardware out of easy reach, team members are forced to either leave their positions to get the materials they need from the printer or take the product somewhere else to be scanned. Whatever the case, it’s inefficient because the hardware is not in line with the processes, which can slow down everything in the facility.

But, with a protective enclosure, organizations can move that hardware to the hazardous area with confidence knowing the housing will protect against machine-killing debris, humidity and/or temperatures. This means that team members can remain in one area, rather than going elsewhere and interrupting the process.

The result is more time doing their actual jobs.

Allowing IT to Focus on Other Issues

Cybersecurity is an extremely hot topic right now, especially with the steady rise in ransomware, malware, phishing schemes and other cyber risks. Therefore, it’s important for the IT department to focus on those issues, along with other technology needs in the organization.

An enclosure can help by keeping hardware clean.

Without an enclosure, dust can get into the nooks and crannies of a machine, gumming up the system and resulting in regular maintenance and cleaning. By keeping the hardware protected from dust and debris in the air, IT team members won’t have to take near as much time cleaning and servicing the equipment.

This means they can focus on protecting the organization from cybersecurity risks, not particulates that will clog up a print head.

Protecting legacy software and quality assurance systems. Enhancing efficiencies. And helping team members do their jobs right. Hardware enclosures offer a number of benefits to organizations.
